A student-led civic initiative, in collaboration with The Bobcat Prowl
About
Who are the candidates on our ballots, and what do they stand for? Finding answers to these questions has grown increasingly difficult for voters. Through this initiative, a group of SWHS students will try to fill some of this gap. We will interview community members, conduct online research, and speak with campaigns to syntheisze short, neutral articles for voters. We will cover the August party primaries this summer, and hope to extend our work into the fall general elections. Our goal is to inform, not persuade.

Hey! My name is Roger Mao, and I graduated from SWHS in 2025. I'm a rising sophomore at Brown, and I'm running this opportunity for SWHS students independent of any party or candidate. I want to see how much lowering information barriers can increase political participation. I've paid to host this website and promote this initiative out of pocket, with costs totalling to less than $1,000.

This project will cover the competitive primaries (i.e., multiple candidates) South Windsor residents can participate in. We started this initiative expecting to cover:
1. The Democratic and Republican primaries for Governor
2. The Republican primary for Lieutenant Governor
3. The Democratic and Republican primaries for the 1st Congressional District
However, the Republican primary for the 1st Congressional District, Lieutenant Governor, and Governor resolved on May 16th, 2026. Nonetheless, we want to hear concerns from all voters.
We will determine our coverage based on student interest and voters' greatest concerns. The information provided by the survey will help us identify the latter, and we will use it for both the current primaries and fall general elections.
